Daniel 9:5-15 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
5 we have sinned1 and done wrong.2 We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away3 from your commands and laws.4 6 We have not listened5 to your servants the prophets,6 who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our fathers,7 and to all the people of the land. 7 "Lord, you are righteous,8 but this day we are covered with shame9--the men of Judah and people of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered10 us because of our unfaithfulness11 to you.12 8 O LORD, we and our kings, our princes and our fathers are covered with shame because we have sinned against you.13 9 The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving,14 even though we have rebelled against him;15 10 we have not obeyed the LORD our God or kept the laws he gave us through his servants the prophets.16 11 All Israel has transgressed17 your law18 and turned away, refusing to obey you. "Therefore the curses19 and sworn judgments20 written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned21 against you. 12 You have fulfilled22 the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing upon us great disaster.23 Under the whole heaven nothing has ever been done like24 what has been done to Jerusalem.25 13 Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD 26 our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth.27 14 The LORD did not hesitate to bring the disaster28 upon us, for the LORD our God is righteous in everything he does;29 yet we have not obeyed him.30 15 "Now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand31 and who made for yourself a name32 that endures to this day, we have sinned, we have done wrong.
