They sacrificed1 to demons,2 which are not God-- gods they had not known,3 gods that recently appeared,4 gods your fathers did not fear.
You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot5 the God who gave you birth.
The LORD saw this and rejected them6 because he was angered by his sons and daughters.720
"I will hide my face8 from them," he said, "and see what their end will be; for they are a perverse generation,9 children who are unfaithful.1021
They made me jealous11 by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols.12 I will make them envious by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding.1322

"I will heap calamities19 upon them and spend my arrows20 against them.
