1 Thessalonians 4:3-18 (English Standard Version)

For this is the will of God, 1your sanctification:a2that you abstain from sexual immorality;
4
that each one of you know how to control his own 3bodyb in holiness and 4honor,
5
not in 5the passion of lust 6like the Gentiles 7who do not know God;
6
that no one transgress and 8wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is 9an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you.
7
For 10God has not called us for 11impurity, but in holiness.

Therefore 12whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, 13who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

Now concerning 14brotherly love 15you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been 16taught by God 17to love one another,

for that indeed is what 18you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to 19do this more and more,
11
and to aspire 20to live quietly, and 21to mind your own affairs, and 22to work with your hands, as we instructed you,
12
so that you may 23walk properly before 24outsiders and be dependent on no one.
The Coming of the Lord
13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, 25that you may not grieve as others do 26who have no hope. 14 For 27since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him 28those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you 29by a word from the Lord,c that 30we who are alive, who are left until 31the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For 32the Lord himself will descend 33from heaven 34with a cry of command, with the voice of 35an archangel, and 36with the sound of the trumpet of God. And 37the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be 38caught up together with them 39in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so 40we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.The English Standard Version is published with the permission of Good News Publishers.
