John 15:5-15

5 I am the vine; ¹you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that ²bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

6 If anyone does not abide in me ³he is thrown away like a branch and withers; ⁴and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.

7 If ⁵you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ⁶ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

8 ⁷By this my Father is glorified, that you ⁸bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.

9 ⁹As the Father has loved me, ¹⁰so have I loved you. Abide in my love.

10 ¹¹If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as ¹²I have kept ¹³my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.

11 These things I have spoken to you, ¹⁴that my joy may be in you, and that ¹⁵your joy may be full.

12 ¹⁶“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

13 ¹⁷Greater love has no one than this, ¹⁸that someone lay down his life for his friends.

14 You are ¹⁹my friends ²⁰if you do what I command you.

15 ²¹No longer do I call you servants, ^[a] for the servant^{[b] 22}does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for ²³all that I have heard from my Father ²⁴I have made known to you.
