Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew over 1purification.
And they came to John and said to him, 2"Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, 3to whom you bore witness--look, he is baptizing, and 4all are going to him."
John answered, 5"A person cannot receive even one thing 6unless it is given him 7from heaven.
You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 8'I am not the Christ, but 9I have been sent before him.'
