There was a man 1sent from God, whose name was 2John.
He came as a 3witness, to bear witness about the light, 4that all might believe through him.
5He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.
6The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet 7the world did not know him.
He came to 8his own, and 9his own people10 did not receive him.
But to all who did receive him, 11who believed in his name, 12he gave the right 13to become 14children of God,
who 15were born, 16not of blood 17nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
And 18the Word 19became flesh and 20dwelt among us, 21and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of 22grace and 23truth.
(24John bore witness about him, and cried out, "This was he of whom I said, 25'He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.'")
And from 26his fullness we have all received, 27grace upon grace.
