But the tax collector, 1standing far off, 2would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but 3beat his breast, saying, 'God, 4be merciful to me, a sinner!'

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For 5everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."
Let the Children Come to Me
156Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they 7rebuked them.

But Jesus called them to him, saying, 8"Let the children come to me, and 9do not hinder them, 10for to such belongs the kingdom of God.

11Truly, I say to you, whoever does not 12receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it."

And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.

You know the commandments: 15'Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.'"

And he said, 16"All these I have kept from my youth."

When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. 17Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have 18treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."

19But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.
