"Blessed are those who hunger and 7thirst 8for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
"Blessed are 9the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
"Blessed are 10the pure in heart, for 11they shall see God.
"Blessed are 12the peacemakers, for 13they shall be called 14sons[a] of God.
15"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for 16theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
17"Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely 18on my account.
19Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for 20so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Salt and Light

"You are the salt of the earth, 21but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.
