On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to the prophet 1Zechariah, the son of 2Berechiah, son of 3Iddo, saying,
"I saw in the night, and behold, 4a man riding on a red horse! He was standing among the myrtle trees in the glen, and behind him were 5red, sorrel, and white horses.
Then I said, 'What are these, my lord?'6The angel who talked with me said to me, 'I will show you what they are.'
So 7the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered, 8'These are they whom the LORD has sent to 9patrol the earth.'
And they answered 10the angel of the LORD who was standing among the myrtle trees, and said, 11'We have patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth 12remains at rest.'
Then 13the angel of the LORD said, 14'O LORD of hosts, 15how long will you 16have no mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which you have been angry these 17seventy years?'
And the LORD answered 18gracious and comforting words to 19the angel who talked with me.
So 20the angel who talked with me said to me, 'Cry out, Thus says the LORD of hosts: 21I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion.
1522And I am exceedingly angry with the nations that are 23at ease; 24for while I was angry but a little, 25they furthered the disaster.
Therefore, thus says the LORD, 26I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy; 27my house shall be built in it, declares the LORD of hosts, and 28the measuring line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.
Cry out again, Thus says the LORD of hosts: 29My cities shall again overflow with prosperity, 30and the LORD will again comfort Zion and again 31choose Jerusalem.'"
