1 GUAI al paese che fa ombra con le ale, che è di là da’ fiumi d’Etiopia!
2 Che manda messi per lo mare, e in vaselli di giunchi sopra le acque, dicendo; Andate, messi leggieri, alla gente di lunga statura, e dipelata; al popolo spaventevole, che è più oltre di quella; alla gente sparsa qua e là, e calpestata, la cui terra i fiumi predano.
3 Voi tutti gli abitatori del mondo, e voi gli abitanti della terra, quando si leverĂ  la bandiera sopra i monti, riguardate; e quando si sonerĂ  la tromba, ascoltate.
4 Perciocchè, così mi ha detto il Signore: Io me ne starò cheto, e riguarderò, dimorando nella mia stanza, a guisa di un calor chiaro più che il sole; come una nuvola rugiadosa nel calore della ricolta.
5 Perciocchè, avanti la mietitura, dopo che la vite avrà finito di metter le gemme, e che il fiore sarà divenuto agresto, che si andrà maturando, Iddio taglierà i magliuoli con falci, e torrà via i tralci, e li riciderà.
6 Saranno tutti quanti lasciati in abbandono agli uccelli de’ monti, ed alle bestie della terra; e gli uccelli passeranno la state sopra essi, ed ogni bestia della terra vi passerà il verno.

INTRODUCTION TO ISAIAH 18

This chapter is a prophecy of the desolation of a land or country, described by the wings with which it was shaded, and by the rivers by which it was situated, Isa 18:1 by its messengers and message to another nation, which is also described, Isa 18:2 all the nations of the world are called upon to observe the judgment about to be inflicted on it, Isa 18:3 and a promise is made, that at the same time God will take up his rest and dwelling among his own people, and refresh and protect them, Isa 18:4 and the time, and manner, and nature of the destruction of the people before threatened, are metaphorically expressed, Isa 18:5,6 and the issue of all will be the glory of God, since these people will be brought, in after times, as a present to him in Mount Zion, Isa 18:7.
