Now the Valley of Siddim1 was full of tar2 pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah3 fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills.411
The four kings seized all the goods5 of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food; then they went away.

They also carried off Abram's nephew Lot6 and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.

One who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew.7 Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre8 the Amorite, a brothera of Eshcol9 and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram.

When Abram heard that his relative10 had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained11 men born in his household12 and went in pursuit as far as Dan.1315
During the night Abram divided his men14 to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.1516
He recovered16 all the goods17 and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people.

After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer18 and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom19 came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley).2018
Then Melchizedek21 king of Salemb22 brought out bread23 and wine.24 He was priest of God Most High,2519
and he blessed Abram,26 saying, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High,27 Creatorc of heaven and earth.2820
And blessed bed God Most High,29 who delivered your enemies into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.30
