God called1 the expanse "sky."2 And there was evening, and there was morning3--the second day.
And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place,4 and let dry ground5 appear." And it was so.610
God called7 the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters8 he called "seas."9 And God saw that it was good.1011
Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation:11 seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.12" And it was so.1312
The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds14 and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.1513
And there was evening, and there was morning16--the third day.
And God said, "Let there be lights17 in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night,18 and let them serve as signs19 to mark seasons20 and days and years,2115
and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so.2216
God made two great lights--the greater light23 to govern24 the day and the lesser light to govern25 the night.26 He also made the stars.2717
God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth,
to govern the day and the night,28 and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.29
