1 Abraham was now old and well advanced in years,1 and the LORD had blessed2 him in every way.3 2 He said to the chiefa servant4 in his household, the one in charge of all that he had,5 "Put your hand under my thigh.6 3 I want you to swear7 by the LORD, the God of heaven8 and the God of earth,9 that you will not get a wife for my son10 from the daughters of the Canaanites,11 among whom I am living,12 4 but will go to my country and my own relatives13 and get a wife for my son Isaac.14" 5 The servant asked him, "What if the woman is unwilling to come back with me to this land?15 Shall I then take your son back to the country you came from?16" 6 "Make sure that you do not take my son back there,"17 Abraham said.
