3 "I am God, the God of your father,"¹ he said. "Do not be afraid² to go down to Egypt,³ for I will make you into a great nation⁴ there.⁵ 4 I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again.⁶ And Joseph's own hand will close your eyes.⁷" 5 Then Jacob left Beersheba,⁸ and Israel's⁹ sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts¹⁰ that Pharaoh had sent to transport him. 6 They also took with them their livestock and the possessions¹¹ they had acquired¹² in Canaan, and Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt.¹³ 7 He took with him to Egypt¹⁴ his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters--all his offspring.¹⁵ 8 These are the names of the sons of Israel¹⁶ (Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt: Reuben the firstborn¹⁷ of Jacob. 9 The sons of Reuben:¹⁸ Hanoch, Pallu,¹⁹ Hezron and Carmi.²⁰ 10 The sons of Simeon:²¹ Jemuel,²² Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar²³ and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. 11 The sons of Levi:²⁴ Gershon,²⁵ Kohath²⁶ and Merari.²⁷ 12 The sons of Judah:²⁸ Er,²⁹ Onan,³⁰ Shelah, Perez³¹ and Zerah³² (but Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan).³³ The sons of Perez:³⁴ Hezron and Hamul. 13 The sons of Issachar:³⁵ Tola, Puah,^a³⁶ Jashub^b³⁷ and Shimron.
