Revelation 10:5 Meaning and Commentary

Revelation 10:5

And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the
earth
His right foot being on the one, and his left foot upon the other, as described in ( Revelation 10:2 ) ;

lifted up his hand to heaven;
the Oriental versions read, "his right hand"; and so some copies, and the Complutensian edition: the man clothed in linen, ( Daniel 12:6 Daniel 12:7 ) , who is the same with the angel here, held up both his hands; the lifting up of the hand was a gesture used in swearing: see ( Genesis 14:22 ) ; so the Jews say F15, "the right hand", or by the right hand, (hewby wz) , "this is an oath", according to ( Daniel 12:7 ) ; or whether the right hand or the left, is an oath, according to ( Isaiah 62:8 ) .

Revelation 10:5 In-Context

3 and called out in a loud voice that sounded like the roar of lions. After he had called out, the seven thunders answered with a roar.
4 As soon as they spoke, I was about to write. But I heard a voice speak from heaven, "Keep secret what the seven thunders have said; do not write it down!"
5 Then the angel that I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven
6 and took a vow in the name of God, who lives forever and ever, who created heaven, earth, and the sea, and everything in them. The angel said, "There will be no more delay!
7 But when the seventh angel blows his trumpet, then God will accomplish his secret plan, as he announced to his servants, the prophets."
