Ezekiel 16:33

33 A prostitute is paid, but you gave presents to all your lovers and bribed them to come from everywhere to sleep with you.

Ezekiel 16:33 Meaning and Commentary

Ezekiel 16:33

They give gifts to all whores
Gifts are usually given to whores, by those who commit whoredom with them; it is for the sake of these they prostitute their bodies, nor will they do this without gain; see ( Genesis 38:16 Genesis 38:17 ) ; but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers;
the Jews gave the Egyptians and Assyrians money, to gain their friendship, and procure alliances with them; see ( 2 Kings 16:8 ) ( Isaiah 30:6 Isaiah 30:7 ) ; and were at great expenses with their idols, and in support of their idolatrous worship: and hirest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy
whoredom;
they courted the nations all around them for their favour and friendship, and bribed them into it, as the word F14 signifies.

Ezekiel 16:33 In-Context

31 On every street you built places to worship idols and practice prostitution. But you are not out for money like a common prostitute.
32 You are like a woman who commits adultery with strangers instead of loving her husband.
33 A prostitute is paid, but you gave presents to all your lovers and bribed them to come from everywhere to sleep with you.
34 You are a special kind of prostitute. No one forced you to become one. You didn't get paid; you paid them! Yes, you are different."
35 Now then, Jerusalem, you whore! Hear what the Lord is saying.
