Luke 9:52

52 He sent messengers ahead of him. They went into a Samaritan village to arrange a place for him to stay.

Luke 9:52 Meaning and Commentary

Luke 9:52

And sent messengers before his face
Who very likely were his two disciples, James and John, since they so highly resented the ill treatment their master met with from the Samaritans:

and they went;
before him:

and entered into a village of the Samaritans;
or "city", as the Vulgate Latin, Persic, and Ethiopic versions read, and so one of Stephens's copies; which lay in the way from Galilee to Judea, where the disciples had been forbid to enter, that is, in order to preach, ( Matthew 10:5 )

To make ready for him;
to prepare a lodging, and proper food for him and his disciples, as they passed on in their journey, for his intention was not to make any stay there.

Luke 9:52 In-Context

50 Jesus said to him, "Don't stop him! Whoever isn't against you is for you."
51 The time was coming closer for Jesus to be taken to heaven. So he was determined to go to Jerusalem.
52 He sent messengers ahead of him. They went into a Samaritan village to arrange a place for him to stay.
53 But the people didn't welcome him, because he was on his way to Jerusalem.
54 James and John, his disciples, saw this. They asked, "Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to burn them up?"
