1 In the past God spoke1 to our forefathers through the prophets2 at many times and in various ways,3 2 but in these last days4 he has spoken to us by his Son,5 whom he appointed heir6 of all things, and through whom7 he made the universe.8 3 The Son is the radiance of God's glory9 and the exact representation of his being,10 sustaining all things11 by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins,12 he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.13 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.14 5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son; today I have become your Fathera "b ?15 Or again, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son"c ?16 6 And again, when God brings his firstborn17 into the world,18 he says, "Let all God's angels worship him."d19 7 In speaking of the angels he says, "He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire."e20Scripture quoted by permission.
