For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one;1 he entered heaven itself,2 now to appear for us in God's presence.325
Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place4 every year with blood that is not his own.526
Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world.6 But now he has appeared7 once for all8 at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.927
Just as man is destined to die once,10 and after that to face judgment,1128
so Christ was sacrificed once12 to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time,13 not to bear sin,14 but to bring salvation15 to those who are waiting for him.16
