Do not rejoice, O Israel; do not be jubilant1 like the other nations. For you have been unfaithful2 to your God; you love the wages of a prostitute3 at every threshing floor.
Threshing floors and winepresses will not feed the people; the new wine4 will fail them.
They will not remain5 in the LORD's land; Ephraim will return to Egypt6 and eat unclean food in Assyria.7
They will not pour out wine offerings8 to the LORD, nor will their sacrifices please9 him. Such sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners;10 all who eat them will be unclean.11 This food will be for themselves; it will not come into the temple of the LORD.12
What will you do13 on the day of your appointed feasts,14 on the festival days of the LORD?
Even if they escape from destruction, Egypt will gather them,15 and Memphis16 will bury them.17 Their treasures of silver18 will be taken over by briers, and thorns19 will overrun their tents.
The days of punishment20 are coming, the days of reckoning21 are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins22 are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool,23 the inspired man a maniac.24
The prophet, along with my God, is the watchman over Ephraim, yet snares25 await him on all his paths, and hostility in the house of his God.26
