Now the sons of Israelagaindidevil in the sight of the LORD. So the LORDstrengthenedEglon the king of MoabagainstIsrael, because* they had doneevil in the sight of the LORD.

But when the sons of Israelcried to the LORD, the LORDraised up a deliverer for them, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed**man. And the sons of Israelsenttribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab.

But he himselfturnedback from the idolswhich were at Gilgal, and said, "I have a secretmessage for you, O king." And he said, "Keepsilence." And all who attended him left him.

When he had gone out, his servantscame and looked, and behold, the doors of the roofchamber were locked; and they said, "He is onlyrelieving* himself in the coolroom."

They waiteduntil they becameanxious; but behold, he did not open the doors of the roofchamber. Therefore they took the key and opened them, and behold, their master had fallen to the floordead.

It came about when he had arrived, that he blew the trumpet in the hillcountry of Ephraim; and the sons of Israelwentdown with him from the hillcountry, and he was in front of them.

He said to them, "Pursue them, for the LORD has given your enemies the Moabites into your hands." So they wentdownafter him and seized the fords of the Jordan opposite Moab, and did not allowanyone to cross.
