A Prophecy Against the Philistines

28 This oracle4 came in the year5 King Ahaz6 died: 29 Do not rejoice, all you Philistines,7 that the rod that struck you is broken; from the root of that snake will spring up a viper,8 its fruit will be a darting, venomous serpent.9 30 The poorest of the poor will find pasture, and the needy10 will lie down in safety.11 But your root I will destroy by famine;12 it will slay13 your survivors.14 31 Wail,15 O gate!16 Howl, O city! Melt away, all you Philistines!17 A cloud of smoke comes from the north,18 and there is not a straggler in its ranks.19 32 What answer shall be given to the envoys20 of that nation? "The LORD has established Zion,21 and in her his afflicted people will find refuge.22"
