Isaiah 16:5-14 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
5 In love a throne1 will be established;2 in faithfulness a man will sit on it-- one from the housea of David3-- one who in judging seeks justice4 and speeds the cause of righteousness. 6 We have heard of Moab's5 pride6-- her overweening pride and conceit, her pride and her insolence-- but her boasts are empty. 7 Therefore the Moabites wail,7 they wail together for Moab. Lament and grieve for the menb8 of Kir Hareseth.9 8 The fields of Heshbon10 wither,11 the vines of Sibmah12 also. The rulers of the nations have trampled down the choicest vines,13 which once reached Jazer14 and spread toward the desert. Their shoots spread out15 and went as far as the sea.16 9 So I weep,17 as Jazer weeps, for the vines of Sibmah. O Heshbon, O Elealeh,18 I drench you with tears!19 The shouts of joy20 over your ripened fruit and over your harvests21 have been stilled. 10 Joy and gladness are taken away from the orchards;22 no one sings or shouts23 in the vineyards; no one treads24 out wine at the presses,25 for I have put an end to the shouting. 11 My heart laments for Moab26 like a harp,27 my inmost being28 for Kir Hareseth. 12 When Moab appears at her high place,29 she only wears herself out; when she goes to her shrine30 to pray, it is to no avail.31 13 This is the word the LORD has already spoken concerning Moab. 14 But now the LORD says: "Within three years,32 as a servant bound by contract33 would count them,34 Moab's splendor and all her many people will be despised,35 and her survivors will be very few and feeble."36
