7
Therefore the Moabites wail,1 they wail together for Moab. Lament and grieve for the mena2 of Kir Hareseth.38
The fields of Heshbon4 wither,5 the vines of Sibmah6 also. The rulers of the nations have trampled down the choicest vines,7 which once reached Jazer8 and spread toward the desert. Their shoots spread out9 and went as far as the sea.109
So I weep,11 as Jazer weeps, for the vines of Sibmah. O Heshbon, O Elealeh,12 I drench you with tears!13 The shouts of joy14 over your ripened fruit and over your harvests15 have been stilled.
10
Joy and gladness are taken away from the orchards;16 no one sings or shouts17 in the vineyards; no one treads18 out wine at the presses,19 for I have put an end to the shouting.
11
My heart laments for Moab20 like a harp,21 my inmost being22 for Kir Hareseth.
12
When Moab appears at her high place,23 she only wears herself out; when she goes to her shrine24 to pray, it is to no avail.2513
This is the word the LORD has already spoken concerning Moab.
14
But now the LORD says: "Within three years,26 as a servant bound by contract27 would count them,28 Moab's splendor and all her many people will be despised,29 and her survivors will be very few and feeble."30
