Isaiah 17:8-14 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
8 They will not look to the altars,1 the work of their hands,2 and they will have no regard for the Asherah polesa3 and the incense altars their fingers4 have made. 9 In that day their strong cities, which they left because of the Israelites, will be like places abandoned to thickets and undergrowth.5 And all will be desolation. 10 You have forgotten6 God your Savior;7 you have not remembered the Rock,8 your fortress.9 Therefore, though you set out the finest plants and plant imported vines,10 11 though on the day you set them out, you make them grow, and on the morning11 when you plant them, you bring them to bud, yet the harvest12 will be as nothing13 in the day of disease and incurable14 pain.15 12 Oh, the raging16 of many nations-- they rage like the raging sea!17 Oh, the uproar18 of the peoples-- they roar like the roaring of great waters!19 13 Although the peoples roar20 like the roar of surging waters, when he rebukes21 them they flee22 far away, driven before the wind like chaff23 on the hills, like tumbleweed before a gale.24 14 In the evening, sudden25 terror!26 Before the morning, they are gone!27 This is the portion of those who loot us, the lot of those who plunder us.
