learn to do right!1 Seek justice,2 encourage the oppressed.a3 Defend the cause of the fatherless,4 plead the case of the widow.518
"Come now, let us reason together,"6 says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;7 though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.819
If you are willing and obedient,9 you will eat the best from the land;1020
but if you resist and rebel,11 you will be devoured by the sword."12 For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.1321
See how the faithful city has become a harlot!14 She once was full of justice; righteousness15 used to dwell in her-- but now murderers!1622
Your silver has become dross,17 your choice wine is diluted with water.
Your rulers are rebels,18 companions of thieves;19 they all love bribes20 and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow's case does not come before them.2124
Therefore the Lord, the LORD Almighty, the Mighty One22 of Israel, declares: "Ah, I will get relief from my foes and avenge23 myself on my enemies.2425
I will turn my hand against you;25 I will thoroughly purge26 away your dross27 and remove all your impurities.2826
I will restore your judges as in days of old,29 your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you will be called30 the City of Righteousness,31 the Faithful City.32"
Zion will be redeemed with justice, her penitent33 ones with righteousness.34
