The Daughter of Zion1 is left2 like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut3 in a field of melons, like a city under siege.
Unless the LORD Almighty had left us some survivors,4 we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.510
Hear the word of the LORD,6 you rulers of Sodom;7 listen to the law8 of our God, you people of Gomorrah!911
"The multitude of your sacrifices-- what are they to me?" says the LORD. "I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals;10 I have no pleasure11 in the blood of bulls12 and lambs and goats.1312
When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you,14 this trampling of my courts?
Stop bringing meaningless offerings!15 Your incense16 is detestable17 to me. New Moons,18 Sabbaths and convocations19-- I cannot bear your evil assemblies.
Your New Moon20 festivals and your appointed feasts21 my soul hates.22 They have become a burden to me;23 I am weary24 of bearing them.
When you spread out your hands25 in prayer, I will hide26 my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen.27 Your hands28 are full of blood;2916
wash30 and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight!31 Stop doing wrong,3217
learn to do right!33 Seek justice,34 encourage the oppressed.a35 Defend the cause of the fatherless,36 plead the case of the widow.3718
"Come now, let us reason together,"38 says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;39 though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.40
