O LORD, your hand is lifted high,1 but they do not see2 it. Let them see your zeal3 for your people and be put to shame;4 let the fire5 reserved for your enemies consume them.
LORD, you establish peace6 for us; all that we have accomplished you have done7 for us.
O LORD, our God, other lords8 besides you have ruled over us, but your name9 alone do we honor.1014
They are now dead,11 they live no more; those departed spirits12 do not rise. You punished them and brought them to ruin;13 you wiped out all memory of them.1415
You have enlarged the nation, O LORD; you have enlarged the nation.15 You have gained glory for yourself; you have extended all the borders16 of the land.
LORD, they came to you in their distress;17 when you disciplined18 them, they could barely whisper19 a prayer.a17
As a woman with child and about to give birth20 writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in your presence, O LORD.
We were with child, we writhed in pain, but we gave birth21 to wind. We have not brought salvation22 to the earth; we have not given birth to people of the world.2319
But your dead24 will live; their bodies will rise. You who dwell in the dust,25 wake up and shout for joy. Your dew26 is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.2720
Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors28 behind you; hide29 yourselves for a little while until his wrath30 has passed by.3121
See, the LORD is coming32 out of his dwelling33 to punish34 the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood35 shed upon her; she will conceal her slain no longer.
