That fading flower, his glorious beauty, set on the head of a fertile valley,1 will be like a fig2 ripe before harvest-- as soon as someone sees it and takes it in his hand, he swallows it.
In that day3 the LORD Almighty will be a glorious4 crown,5 a beautiful wreath for the remnant6 of his people.
He will be a spirit of justice7 to him who sits in judgment,8 a source of strength to those who turn back the battle9 at the gate.

All the tables are covered with vomit16 and there is not a spot without filth.
"Who is it he is trying to teach?17 To whom is he explaining his message?18 To children weaned19 from their milk,20 to those just taken from the breast?

Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues22 God will speak to this people,2312
to whom he said, "This is the resting place, let the weary rest";24 and, "This is the place of repose"-- but they would not listen.
So then, the word of the LORD to them will become: Do and do, do and do, rule on rule, rule on rule; a little here, a little there25-- so that they will go and fall backward, be injured26 and snared and captured.2714
Therefore hear the word of the LORD,28 you scoffers29 who rule this people in Jerusalem.
