You have abandoned1 your people, the house of Jacob.2 They are full of superstitions from the East; they practice divination3 like the Philistines4 and clasp hands5 with pagans.67
Their land is full of silver and gold;7 there is no end to their treasures.8 Their land is full of horses;9 there is no end to their chariots.108
Their land is full of idols;11 they bow down12 to the work of their hands,13 to what their fingers14 have made.

So man will be brought low15 and mankind humbled16-- do not forgive them.a1710

The eyes of the arrogant20 man will be humbled21 and the pride22 of men brought low;23 the LORD alone will be exalted24 in that day.2512
The LORD Almighty has a day26 in store for all the proud27 and lofty,28 for all that is exalted29 (and they will be humbled),3013
for all the cedars of Lebanon,31 tall and lofty,32 and all the oaks of Bashan,3314
for all the towering mountains and all the high hills,3415
for every lofty tower35 and every fortified wall,3616
for every trading shipb37 and every stately vessel.
