Isaiah 37:11-21 (New International Version)

11 Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries, destroying them completely. And will you be delivered?1 12 Did the gods of the nations that were destroyed by my forefathers2 deliver them--the gods of Gozan, Haran,3 Rezeph and the people of Eden4 who were in Tel Assar? 13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad,5 the king of the city of Sepharvaim,6 or of Hena or Ivvah?"7

Hezekiah's Prayer

14 Hezekiah received the letter8 from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple9 of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD. 15 And Hezekiah prayed10 to the LORD: 16 "O LORD Almighty, God of Israel, enthroned11 between the cherubim,12 you alone are God13 over all the kingdoms14 of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.15 17 Give ear, O LORD, and hear;16 open your eyes, O LORD, and see;17 listen to all the words Sennacherib18 has sent to insult19 the living God.20 18 "It is true, O LORD, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste all these peoples and their lands.21 19 They have thrown their gods into the fire22 and destroyed them,23 for they were not gods24 but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands.25 20 Now, O LORD our God, deliver26 us from his hand, so that all kingdoms on earth27 may know that you alone, O LORD, are God.a28"
