Isaiah 40:16-26 (New International Version)

16 Lebanon1 is not sufficient for altar fires, nor its animals2 enough for burnt offerings. 17 Before him all the nations3 are as nothing;4 they are regarded by him as worthless and less than nothing.5 18 To whom, then, will you compare God?6 What image7 will you compare him to? 19 As for an idol,8 a craftsman casts it, and a goldsmith9 overlays it with gold10 and fashions silver chains for it. 20 A man too poor to present such an offering selects wood11 that will not rot. He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol12 that will not topple.13 21 Do you not know? Have you not heard?14 Has it not been told15 you from the beginning?16 Have you not understood17 since the earth was founded?18 22 He sits enthroned19 above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers.20 He stretches out the heavens21 like a canopy,22 and spreads them out like a tent23 to live in.24 23 He brings princes25 to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.26 24 No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root27 in the ground, than he blows28 on them and they wither,29 and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.30 25 "To whom will you compare me?31 Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One.32 26 Lift your eyes and look to the heavens:33 Who created34 all these? He who brings out the starry host35 one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength,36 not one of them is missing.37
