To whom, then, will you compare God?1 What image2 will you compare him to?
As for an idol,3 a craftsman casts it, and a goldsmith4 overlays it with gold5 and fashions silver chains for it.
A man too poor to present such an offering selects wood6 that will not rot. He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol7 that will not topple.821
Do you not know? Have you not heard?9 Has it not been told10 you from the beginning?11 Have you not understood12 since the earth was founded?1322
He sits enthroned14 above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers.15 He stretches out the heavens16 like a canopy,17 and spreads them out like a tent18 to live in.1923
He brings princes20 to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.2124
No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root22 in the ground, than he blows23 on them and they wither,24 and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.2525
"To whom will you compare me?26 Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One.2726
Lift your eyes and look to the heavens:28 Who created29 all these? He who brings out the starry host30 one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength,31 not one of them is missing.3227
Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God"?3328
Do you not know? Have you not heard?34 The LORD is the everlasting35 God, the Creator36 of the ends of the earth.37 He will not grow tired or weary,38 and his understanding no one can fathom.3929
He gives strength40 to the weary41 and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men42 stumble and fall;4331
but those who hope44 in the LORD will renew their strength.45 They will soar on wings like eagles;46 they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.47
