Do not be afraid,1 O worm2 Jacob, O little Israel, for I myself will help3 you," declares the LORD, your Redeemer,4 the Holy One5 of Israel.
"See, I will make you into a threshing sledge,6 new and sharp, with many teeth. You will thresh the mountains7 and crush them, and reduce the hills to chaff.816
You will winnow9 them, the wind will pick them up, and a gale10 will blow them away.11 But you will rejoice12 in the LORD and glory13 in the Holy One14 of Israel.
"The poor and needy search for water,15 but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst.16 But I the LORD will answer17 them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake18 them.
I will make rivers flow19 on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert20 into pools of water,21 and the parched ground into springs.2219
I will put in the desert23 the cedar and the acacia,24 the myrtle and the olive. I will set pines25 in the wasteland, the fir and the cypress26 together,2720
so that people may see and know,28 may consider and understand,29 that the hand30 of the LORD has done this, that the Holy One31 of Israel has created32 it.
"Present your case,33" says the LORD. "Set forth your arguments," says Jacob's King.3422
"Bring in [ your idols] to tell us what is going to happen.35 Tell us what the former things36 were, so that we may consider them and know their final outcome. Or declare to us the things to come,3723
tell us what the future holds, so we may know38 that you are gods. Do something, whether good or bad,39 so that we will be dismayed40 and filled with fear.
But you are less than nothing41 and your works are utterly worthless;42 he who chooses you is detestable.43
