to open eyes that are blind,1 to free2 captives from prison3 and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.48
"I am the LORD;5 that is my name!6 I will not give my glory to another7 or my praise to idols.89
See, the former things9 have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce10 them to you."
Sing11 to the LORD a new song,12 his praise13 from the ends of the earth,14 you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it,15 you islands,16 and all who live in them.
Let the desert17 and its towns raise their voices; let the settlements where Kedar18 lives rejoice. Let the people of Sela19 sing for joy; let them shout from the mountaintops.2012
Let them give glory21 to the LORD and proclaim his praise22 in the islands.2313
The LORD will march out like a mighty24 man, like a warrior25 he will stir up his zeal;26 with a shout27 he will raise the battle cry and will triumph over his enemies.2814
"For a long time I have kept silent,29 I have been quiet and held myself back.30 But now, like a woman in childbirth, I cry out, I gasp and pant.3115
I will lay waste32 the mountains33 and hills and dry up all their vegetation; I will turn rivers into islands and dry up34 the pools.
I will lead35 the blind36 by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light37 before them and make the rough places smooth.38 These are the things I will do; I will not forsake39 them.
But those who trust in idols, who say to images, 'You are our gods,'40 will be turned back in utter shame.41
