This is what the LORD says-- he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,117
who drew out2 the chariots and horses,3 the army and reinforcements together,4 and they lay5 there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:618
"Forget the former things;7 do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!8 Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert9 and streams in the wasteland.1020
The wild animals11 honor me, the jackals12 and the owls, because I provide water13 in the desert and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen,
the people I formed14 for myself15 that they may proclaim my praise.1622
"Yet you have not called upon me, O Jacob, you have not wearied17 yourselves for me, O Israel.1823
You have not brought me sheep for burnt offerings,19 nor honored20 me with your sacrifices.21 I have not burdened22 you with grain offerings nor wearied you with demands23 for incense.2424
You have not bought any fragrant calamus25 for me, or lavished on me the fat26 of your sacrifices. But you have burdened me with your sins and wearied27 me with your offenses.2825
"I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions,29 for my own sake,30 and remembers your sins31 no more.3226
Review the past for me, let us argue the matter together;33 state the case34 for your innocence.
