For I will pour water1 on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground;2 I will pour out my Spirit3 on your offspring, and my blessing4 on your descendants.54

All who make idols21 are nothing, and the things they treasure are worthless.22 Those who would speak up for them are blind;23 they are ignorant, to their own shame.2410
Who shapes a god and casts an idol,25 which can profit him nothing?2611
He and his kind will be put to shame;27 craftsmen are nothing but men. Let them all come together and take their stand; they will be brought down to terror and infamy.2812
The blacksmith29 takes a tool and works with it in the coals; he shapes an idol with hammers, he forges it with the might of his arm.30 He gets hungry and loses his strength; he drinks no water and grows faint.3113
The carpenter32 measures with a line and makes an outline with a marker; he roughs it out with chisels and marks it with compasses. He shapes it in the form of man,33 of man in all his glory, that it may dwell in a shrine.34
