"This is what the LORD says to his anointed,1 to Cyrus,2 whose right hand I take hold3 of to subdue nations4 before him and to strip kings of their armor, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut:
I will go before you5 and will level6 the mountainsa; I will break down gates7 of bronze and cut through bars of iron.83
I will give you the treasures9 of darkness, riches stored in secret places,10 so that you may know11 that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.124
For the sake of Jacob my servant,13 of Israel my chosen, I summon you by name and bestow on you a title of honor, though you do not acknowledge14 me.
I am the LORD, and there is no other;15 apart from me there is no God.16 I will strengthen you,17 though you have not acknowledged me,
so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting18 men may know19 there is none besides me.20 I am the LORD, and there is no other.
I form the light and create darkness,21 I bring prosperity and create disaster;22 I, the LORD, do all these things.
"You heavens above, rain23 down righteousness;24 let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation25 spring up, let righteousness grow with it; I, the LORD, have created it.
"Woe to him who quarrels26 with his Maker,27 to him who is but a potsherd28 among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter,29 'What are you making?'30 Does your work say, 'He has no hands'?3110
Woe to him who says to his father, 'What have you begotten?' or to his mother, 'What have you brought to birth?'
