I form the light and create darkness,1 I bring prosperity and create disaster;2 I, the LORD, do all these things.
"You heavens above, rain3 down righteousness;4 let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation5 spring up, let righteousness grow with it; I, the LORD, have created it.
"Woe to him who quarrels6 with his Maker,7 to him who is but a potsherd8 among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter,9 'What are you making?'10 Does your work say, 'He has no hands'?1110
Woe to him who says to his father, 'What have you begotten?' or to his mother, 'What have you brought to birth?'
"This is what the LORD says-- the Holy One12 of Israel, and its Maker:13 Concerning things to come, do you question me about my children, or give me orders about the work of my hands?1412
It is I who made the earth15 and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens;16 I marshaled their starry hosts.1713
I will raise up Cyrusa18 in my righteousness: I will make all his ways straight.19 He will rebuild my city20 and set my exiles free, but not for a price or reward,21 says the LORD Almighty."

Truly you are a God who hides30 himself, O God and Savior31 of Israel.
