View In My Bible
2 Take millstones1 and grind2 flour; take off your veil.3 Lift up your skirts,4 bare your legs, and wade through the streams. 3 Your nakedness5 will be exposed and your shame6 uncovered. I will take vengeance;7 I will spare no one.8" 4 Our Redeemer9--the LORD Almighty10 is his name11-- is the Holy One12 of Israel. 5 "Sit in silence,13 go into darkness,14 Daughter of the Babylonians;15 no more will you be called queen16 of kingdoms.17 6 I was angry18 with my people and desecrated my inheritance;19 I gave them into your hand,20 and you showed them no mercy.21 Even on the aged you laid a very heavy yoke. 7 You said, 'I will continue forever22-- the eternal queen!'23 But you did not consider these things or reflect24 on what might happen.25 8 "Now then, listen, you wanton creature, lounging in your security26 and saying to yourself, 'I am, and there is none besides me.27 I will never be a widow28 or suffer the loss of children.' 9 Both of these will overtake you in a moment,29 on a single day: loss of children30 and widowhood.31 They will come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many sorceries32 and all your potent spells.33 10 You have trusted34 in your wickedness and have said, 'No one sees me.'35 Your wisdom36 and knowledge mislead37 you when you say to yourself, 'I am, and there is none besides me.' 11 Disaster38 will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly39 come upon you. 12 "Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries,40 which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror.
