3 Your nakedness1 will be exposed and your shame2 uncovered. I will take vengeance;3 I will spare no one.4" 4 Our Redeemer5--the LORD Almighty6 is his name7-- is the Holy One8 of Israel. 5 "Sit in silence,9 go into darkness,10 Daughter of the Babylonians;11 no more will you be called queen12 of kingdoms.13 6 I was angry14 with my people and desecrated my inheritance;15 I gave them into your hand,16 and you showed them no mercy.17 Even on the aged you laid a very heavy yoke. 7 You said, 'I will continue forever18-- the eternal queen!'19 But you did not consider these things or reflect20 on what might happen.21 8 "Now then, listen, you wanton creature, lounging in your security22 and saying to yourself, 'I am, and there is none besides me.23 I will never be a widow24 or suffer the loss of children.' 9 Both of these will overtake you in a moment,25 on a single day: loss of children26 and widowhood.27 They will come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many sorceries28 and all your potent spells.29 10 You have trusted30 in your wickedness and have said, 'No one sees me.'31 Your wisdom32 and knowledge mislead33 you when you say to yourself, 'I am, and there is none besides me.' 11 Disaster34 will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly35 come upon you. 12 "Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries,36 which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror. 13 All the counsel you have received has only worn you out!37 Let your astrologers38 come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save39 you from what is coming upon you.
