Restoration of Israel

8 This is what the LORD says: "In the time of my favor1 I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you;2 I will keep3 you and will make you to be a covenant for the people,4 to restore the land5 and to reassign its desolate inheritances,6 9 to say to the captives,7 'Come out,' and to those in darkness,8 'Be free!' "They will feed beside the roads and find pasture on every barren hill.9 10 They will neither hunger nor thirst,10 nor will the desert heat or the sun beat upon them.11 He who has compassion12 on them will guide13 them and lead them beside springs14 of water. 11 I will turn all my mountains into roads, and my highways15 will be raised up.16 12 See, they will come from afar17-- some from the north, some from the west,18 some from the region of Aswan.a " 13 Shout for joy,19 O heavens; rejoice, O earth;20 burst into song, O mountains!21 For the LORD comforts22 his people and will have compassion23 on his afflicted ones.24 14 But Zion25 said, "The LORD has forsaken26 me, the Lord has forgotten me." 15 "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child27 she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!28 16 See, I have engraved29 you on the palms of my hands; your walls30 are ever before me. 17 Your sons hasten back, and those who laid you waste31 depart from you. 18 Lift up your eyes and look around; all your sons gather32 and come to you. As surely as I live,33" declares the LORD, "you will wear34 them all as ornaments; you will put them on, like a bride. 19 "Though you were ruined and made desolate35 and your land laid waste,36 now you will be too small for your people,37 and those who devoured38 you will be far away. 20 The children born during your bereavement will yet say in your hearing, 'This place is too small for us; give us more space to live in.'39 21 Then you will say in your heart, 'Who bore me these?40 I was bereaved41 and barren; I was exiled and rejected.42 Who brought these43 up? I was left44 all alone,45 but these--where have they come from?' " 22 This is what the Sovereign LORD 46 says: "See, I will beckon to the Gentiles, I will lift up my banner47 to the peoples; they will bring48 your sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their shoulders.49 23 Kings50 will be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers.51 They will bow down52 before you with their faces to the ground; they will lick the dust53 at your feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD;54 those who hope55 in me will not be disappointed.56" 24 Can plunder be taken from warriors,57 or captives rescued from the fierceb ? 25 But this is what the LORD says: "Yes, captives58 will be taken from warriors,59 and plunder retrieved from the fierce;60 I will contend with those who contend with you,6162 and your children I will save.63 26 I will make your oppressors64 eat65 their own flesh; they will be drunk on their own blood,66 as with wine. Then all mankind will know67 that I, the LORD, am your Savior,68 your Redeemer,69 the Mighty One of Jacob.70"
