For your Maker1 is your husband2-- the LORD Almighty is his name-- the Holy One3 of Israel is your Redeemer;4 he is called the God of all the earth.56
The LORD will call you back6 as if you were a wife deserted7 and distressed in spirit-- a wife who married young,8 only to be rejected," says your God.
"For a brief moment9 I abandoned10 you, but with deep compassion11 I will bring you back.128
In a surge of anger13 I hid14 my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness15 I will have compassion16 on you," says the LORD your Redeemer.179
"To me this is like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth.18 So now I have sworn19 not to be angry20 with you, never to rebuke21 you again.
Though the mountains be shaken2223 and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love24 for you will not be shaken25 nor my covenant26 of peace27 be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion28 on you.
"O afflicted29 city, lashed by storms30 and not comforted,31 I will build you with stones of turquoise,a32 your foundations33 with sapphires.b3412
I will make your battlements of rubies, your gates35 of sparkling jewels, and all your walls of precious stones.
All your sons will be taught by the LORD,36 and great will be your children's peace.3714
In righteousness38 you will be established:39 Tyranny40 will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear.41 Terror42 will be far removed; it will not come near you.
If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you will surrender43 to you.
