"Whom have you so dreaded and feared1 that you have been false to me, and have neither remembered2 me nor pondered3 this in your hearts? Is it not because I have long been silent4 that you do not fear me?
I will expose your righteousness and your works,5 and they will not benefit you.
When you cry out6 for help, let your collection [of idols] save7 you! The wind will carry all of them off, a mere breath will blow8 them away. But the man who makes me his refuge9 will inherit the land10 and possess my holy mountain."11
And it will be said: "Build up, build up, prepare the road!12 Remove the obstacles out of the way of my people."1315
For this is what the high and lofty14 One says-- he who lives forever,15 whose name is holy: "I live in a high16 and holy place, but also with him who is contrite17 and lowly in spirit,18 to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.1916
I will not accuse20 forever, nor will I always be angry,21 for then the spirit of man would grow faint before me-- the breath22 of man that I have created.
I was enraged by his sinful greed;23 I punished him, and hid24 my face in anger, yet he kept on in his willful ways.2518
I have seen his ways, but I will heal26 him; I will guide27 him and restore comfort28 to him,
creating praise on the lips29 of the mourners in Israel. Peace, peace,30 to those far and near,"31 says the LORD. "And I will heal them."
But the wicked32 are like the tossing sea,33 which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire34 and mud.
"There is no peace,"35 says my God, "for the wicked."36
