"But you--come here, you sons of a sorceress,1 you offspring of adulterers2 and prostitutes!34
Whom are you mocking? At whom do you sneer and stick out your tongue? Are you not a brood of rebels,4 the offspring of liars?
You burn with lust among the oaks5 and under every spreading tree;6 you sacrifice your children7 in the ravines and under the overhanging crags.
[The idols]8 among the smooth stones of the ravines are your portion; they, they are your lot. Yes, to them you have poured out drink offerings9 and offered grain offerings. In the light of these things, should I relent?107
You have made your bed on a high and lofty hill;11 there you went up to offer your sacrifices.128
Behind your doors and your doorposts you have put your pagan symbols. Forsaking me, you uncovered your bed, you climbed into it and opened it wide; you made a pact with those whose beds you love,13 and you looked on their nakedness.149
You went to Molecha15 with olive oil and increased your perfumes.16 You sent your ambassadorsb17 far away; you descended to the gravec18 itself !
You were wearied19 by all your ways, but you would not say, 'It is hopeless.'20 You found renewal of your strength,21 and so you did not faint.
"Whom have you so dreaded and feared22 that you have been false to me, and have neither remembered23 me nor pondered24 this in your hearts? Is it not because I have long been silent25 that you do not fear me?
I will expose your righteousness and your works,26 and they will not benefit you.
When you cry out27 for help, let your collection [of idols] save28 you! The wind will carry all of them off, a mere breath will blow29 them away. But the man who makes me his refuge30 will inherit the land31 and possess my holy mountain."32
