Isaiah 59:12-21 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
12 For our offenses1 are many in your sight, and our sins testify2 against us. Our offenses are ever with us, and we acknowledge our iniquities:3 13 rebellion4 and treachery against the LORD, turning our backs5 on our God, fomenting oppression6 and revolt, uttering lies7 our hearts have conceived. 14 So justice8 is driven back, and righteousness9 stands at a distance; truth10 has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter. 15 Truth11 is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey. The LORD looked and was displeased that there was no justice.12 16 He saw that there was no one,13 he was appalled that there was no one to intervene;14 so his own arm worked salvation15 for him, and his own righteousness16 sustained him. 17 He put on righteousness as his breastplate,17 and the helmet18 of salvation on his head; he put on the garments19 of vengeance20 and wrapped himself in zeal21 as in a cloak. 18 According to what they have done, so will he repay22 wrath to his enemies and retribution to his foes; he will repay the islands23 their due. 19 From the west,24 men will fear the name of the LORD, and from the rising of the sun,25 they will revere his glory.26 For he will come like a pent-up flood that the breath27 of the LORD drives along.a 20 "The Redeemer28 will come to Zion,29 to those in Jacob who repent of their sins,"30 declares the LORD. 21 "As for me, this is my covenant31 with them," says the LORD. "My Spirit,32 who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth33 will not depart from your mouth,34 or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of their descendants from this time on and forever," says the LORD.
