Isaiah 5:24-30 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
24 Therefore, as tongues of fire1 lick up straw2 and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay3 and their flowers blow away like dust;4 for they have rejected the law of the LORD Almighty and spurned the word5 of the Holy One6 of Israel. 25 Therefore the LORD's anger7 burns against his people; his hand is raised and he strikes them down. The mountains shake,8 and the dead bodies9 are like refuse10 in the streets.11 Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away,12 his hand is still upraised.13 26 He lifts up a banner14 for the distant nations, he whistles15 for those at the ends of the earth.16 Here they come, swiftly and speedily! 27 Not one of them grows tired17 or stumbles, not one slumbers or sleeps; not a belt18 is loosened at the waist,19 not a sandal thong is broken.20 28 Their arrows are sharp,21 all their bows22 are strung; their horses' hoofs23 seem like flint, their chariot wheels like a whirlwind.24 29 Their roar is like that of the lion,25 they roar like young lions; they growl as they seize26 their prey and carry it off with no one to rescue.27 30 In that day28 they will roar over it like the roaring of the sea.29 And if one looks at the land, he will see darkness30 and distress;31 even the light will be darkened32 by the clouds.
