"Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard.14
What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it?2 When I looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad?35
Now I will tell you what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it will be destroyed;4 I will break down its wall,5 and it will be trampled.66
I will make it a wasteland,7 neither pruned nor cultivated, and briers and thorns8 will grow there. I will command the clouds not to rain9 on it."
The vineyard10 of the LORD Almighty is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are the garden of his delight. And he looked for justice,11 but saw bloodshed; for righteousness,12 but heard cries of distress.13
Woe14 to you who add house to house and join field to field15 till no space is left and you live alone in the land.
The LORD Almighty16 has declared in my hearing:17 "Surely the great houses will become desolate,18 the fine mansions left without occupants.
A ten-acrea vineyard will produce only a bathb of wine, a homerc of seed only an ephahd of grain."1911
Woe20 to those who rise early in the morning to run after their drinks, who stay up late at night till they are inflamed with wine.2112
They have harps and lyres at their banquets, tambourines22 and flutes23 and wine, but they have no regard24 for the deeds of the LORD, no respect for the work of his hands.2513
Therefore my people will go into exile26 for lack of understanding;27 their men of rank28 will die of hunger and their masses will be parched with thirst.29
