who say, 'Keep away; don't come near me, for I am too sacred1 for you!' Such people are smoke2 in my nostrils, a fire that keeps burning all day.
"See, it stands written before me: I will not keep silent3 but will pay back4 in full; I will pay it back into their laps5--
both your sins6 and the sins of your fathers,"7 says the LORD. "Because they burned sacrifices on the mountains and defied me on the hills,8 I will measure into their laps the full payment9 for their former deeds."
This is what the LORD says: "As when juice is still found in a cluster of grapes10 and men say, 'Don't destroy it, there is yet some good in it,' so will I do in behalf of my servants;11 I will not destroy them all.
I will bring forth descendants12 from Jacob, and from Judah those who will possess13 my mountains; my chosen14 people will inherit them, and there will my servants live.1510
Sharon16 will become a pasture for flocks,17 and the Valley of Achor18 a resting place for herds, for my people who seek19 me.
"But as for you who forsake20 the LORD and forget my holy mountain,21 who spread a table for Fortune and fill bowls of mixed wine22 for Destiny,
I will destine you for the sword,23 and you will all bend down for the slaughter;24 for I called but you did not answer,25 I spoke but you did not listen.26 You did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me."2713
Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "My servants will eat,28 but you will go hungry;29 my servants will drink,30 but you will go thirsty;31 my servants will rejoice,32 but you will be put to shame.3314
My servants will sing34 out of the joy of their hearts, but you will cry out35 from anguish of heart and wail in brokenness of spirit.
You will leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse;36 the Sovereign LORD will put you to death, but to his servants he will give another name.37
