And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy1, holy is the LORD Almighty;2 the whole earth3 is full of his glory."44
At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.55
"Woe6 to me!" I cried. "I am ruined!7 For I am a man of unclean lips,89 and I live among a people of unclean lips,10 and my eyes have seen11 the King,12 the LORD Almighty."136
Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal14 in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.
With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips;15 your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.16"
Then I heard the voice17 of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send?18 And who will go for us?19" And I said, "Here am I.20 Send me!"
He said, "Go21 and tell this people: " 'Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.'2210
Make the heart of this people calloused;23 make their ears dull and close their eyes.a24 Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears,25 understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed."2611
Then I said, "For how long, O Lord?"27 And he answered: "Until the cities lie ruined28 and without inhabitant, until the houses are left deserted29 and the fields ruined and ravaged,3012
until the LORD has sent everyone far away31 and the land is utterly forsaken.3213
And though a tenth remains33 in the land, it will again be laid waste.34 But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps35 when they are cut down, so the holy36 seed will be the stump in the land."37
